The City of Texarkana, TX Receives USDA Farmers Market Grant

The City of Texarkana, TX Farmers Market was awarded $118,800.00 over the course of the next three years as part of the USDA Farmers Market Grants. The United States Department of Agriculture recently announced allocations of $90.2 Million to strengthen local and regional markets for U.S. agricultural products.

“We are excited for this opportunity to continue to grow the Texarkana Farmers Market”, said Vashil Fernandez, Interim Director of Planning and Community Development.

The grant award will be used to increase marketing and outreach efforts of the Texarkana, TX Farmers Market. These funds will assist with implementing additional health and safety protocols at the market, and host pop up farmers markets in low to moderate income neighborhoods. Additionally, funds will be used to provide educational materials to enhance the popular drive-through TXK Boxes, which provided a safe and convenient opportunity for customers to purchase locally grown food. Finally, the grant will focus on purchasing audio visual equipment, and video editing software that will be used to produce content related to accessing local food and cooking presentations to promote local farmers and food services.
